In my journey with the Lord, He kept taking me back to Eve in the bible. He highlighted her life story as being the mother of all living. Although, some of her story was about how she transgressed against God’s word, God showed me her story was still about redemption, hope, and the promise of God reconciling with his creation through the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ.

Eve in the garden of Eden

It all began in the garden when the Lord noticed that Adam had a purpose which was to name all of the living things on the earth but did not have a “helper” to support him in that purpose. God chose to put Adam to sleep while He formed this woman-helper from Adam’s rib. The Lord did not just come up with this idea out of no where. It was inspired by the Holy Trinity- Father God, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Genesis 1:26

Eve’s name

When Adam awoke, he saw a woman before him and He named her woman because she was taken from his flesh and was formed into His likeness.

This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called woman, because she was taken from man

Genesis 3: 23

Shortly after Adam and Eve lost access to the garden of Eden, Adam decided to name his wife Eve because she would be the mother for all of those who live– Genesis 3:20 Eve bore children of her own- Cain, Abel, and Seth. She was also known as the mother of all living because her “seed” would trace back to Mary who bore Jesus Christ.

When she gave birth to Cain, She said , “With the Lord’s help, I have produced a man!

Genesis 4:1

Similarly to Mary, the mother of Jesus, Eve was able to conceive her son Cain with the help of God

Characteristics of Eve in the Bible

The Helper and Wife

Eve was considered to be a helper to Adam. She was given this assignment by God to be a companion to Adam. She would complement Him- or make Him complete and perfect in God’s image. God took parts of Adam and created another human-like form. This was two halves that became one. It was a complete picture of two people becoming one in the eyes of God. It was a marriage created in the garden of God’s delight- Eden

This is why the Lord said:

For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed or embarrassed

Genesis 2:24 AMP

Birth-giver

Eve was the first woman to give birth on this earth. She had three sons in child-birth and her first son Cain was produced with the help of God. For her disobedience, the Lord multiplied pain in child birth. But I believe this was a prophetic symbol of the pressure that often occurs when a seed springs up from the ground. It becomes a beautiful tree once it is watered and nurtured by natural elements.

Mother of all living

Eve was the mother of all living. Her seed would produce many descendants that would one day link to the last Adam- Jesus Christ. Her assignment was to “mother” a generation that would usher in future kings with the image or the foreshadowing of the true and anointed King- Jesus.

The Story of Redemption

The Lord redeemed the “seed” of Eve. He mentioned to the serpent:

I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring and you shall bruise his heel.”

Genesis 3:15

Eve’s seed would one day crush the serpents head, bringing his evil deeds to a final end. The devil thought that he could be crafty enough to end God’s design of creation being one with the Creator. But God in His infinite ways allowed Eve’s mistake to be for her good and to bring glory to His great name.

Jesus would crush the serpents head with His death and resurrection on the cross. He would bring newness of life and revive the Garden of Eden in the hearts of mothers who are destined to be life-givers. Eve was a mother of life because she set in motion God’s plan to join heart to heart with His people once again.

The Story of Hope

The Lord protected Eve’s seed by putting enmity between the devil’s seed ( Devil’s offspring or those that commit evil acts ) and Eve’s seed ( the church or Christ followers). This was a prophetic act by the Lord to show the division and war of two kingdoms: God’s kingdom and the Devil and His followers kingdom. God’s kingdom would win and has already won. Through Jesus Christ- the hope of glory, the kingdom of God is now established in our hearts

The kingdom of God is within you!

nor will people say, ‘Look! Here it is!’ or, ‘There it is!’ For the kingdom of God is among you [because of My presence].

Luke 17:21

God calls His children to be born again of water and spirit- to be baptized in the the word of God and and to be filled with His Holy Spirit. This is how we can enter into the Kingdom of God. We must be born again.

The Story of God’s Promise

Although, the serpent managed to deceive Eve into eating the fruit in the garden, this did not stop God’s promise from being fulfilled.

In the garden of Eden, there was the tree of life. The tree of life was a foreshadow of God’s presence stretching out to His people. It also had twelve kinds of fruit ( Revelations 22:12). The tree of life if eaten, was the Paradise of God being consumed in a man’s soul( Revelation 2:7). The fruit that was produced after eating from the tree of life was righteousness, wise words spoken, a life that was blessed, rich, peaceful, and honorable. Jesus is the tree of life.

Like Eve who had the ability to bring life into the world, God became the source of life (John 1:4). There was enmity with God and His creation ( Adam and Eve) when he took them out of the garden of Eden. But God reconciled Himself through His Son Jesus Christ (the Tree of Life) with His creation so that they can live with Him FOREVER. That was the promise and desire fulfilled as a tree of life.
